You should never count on that happening, and of course I’d already ridden the ride as part of rope drop.

Second, I got very lucky at 4:17PM grabbing a 4:25PM return for Tower of Terror. First, I felt comfortable with where the return times for Smugglers Run were in the morning, which I why I grabbed that Alien Swirling Saucers early just to get it out of the way. Two interesting things happened this day. Here’s an example itinerary from a day I spent at Hollywood Studios using Genie+ (Lightning Lane activity in bold):ĩAM Buy Rise Individual LL (not a Disney resort guest today)ĩ:17 Tower of Terror (Posted 13, Actual 9)ĩ:46 Rock n Roller Coaster (Posted 15, Actual 22)ġ0:01 Grab Alien Swirling Saucers LL (10:50-11:50)ġ1:03 Alien Swirling Saucers (LL 7 vs 35 standby)Ģ:20 Toy Story Mania (LL 8 vs 50 standby)Ģ:20 Grab Beauty and the Beast LL (3:30-3:50)Ģ:41 Smugglers Run (6 Single Rider vs 45 standby)ģ:30 Shopping (but could have watched Lightning McQueen)Ĥ:36 Tower or Terror (LL 10 vs 30 standby)Ħ:43 Runaway Railway (posted 50 actual 41) You simply don’t know how lucky you’ll be stacking.Įxample Day Using Genie+ at Hollywood Studios But if you can grab a short wait as part of good rope drop strategy, that’s always preferable to planning to stack. That meant I didn’t have a chance for a short morning wait on either Smugglers Run or Tower. On this particular day, crowds were so heavy and I wound up stuck in line for a broken Rise of the Resistance all morning. Had I booked Tower second, I definitely wouldn’t have gotten a Smugglers Run Lightning Lane, but if my family was willing to split up, the single rider line is a good alternative to waiting in the regular standby line.

That ran the risk I’d have to wait in the standby line for Tower (which doesn’t have a single rider line). Because I wanted to stack, I booked that ride second, instead of Tower of Terror. Would that have been the worst thing? No.īut I’d also point out that Smugglers Run has a single rider line. I was close to having to wait in line later for Tower of Terror. I had to refresh the Genie Tip Board for about 3 minutes to get that Tower of Terror time-the ride was actually showing no availability by the time I was able to book it. This won’t necessarily be the stack you want-on this particular day I’d already ridden Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, and I opted not to book Alien Swirling Saucers-but in any case when stacking you’re sort of at the whims of what’s available. So as of 3:30PM I had four Lightning Lanes booked for the afternoon. Here’s an example of a day when I stacked at Hollywood Studios (only including relevant details):ħAM - Book Slinky Dog Dash (9:10AM - 10:10AM)ĩ:30AM - Book Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (4:55PM - 5:55PM)ġ1:33AM - Book Tower of Terror (4:25PM - 5:25PM)ġ:30PM - Book Toy Story Mania (6:20PM - 7:20PM)ģ:30PM - Book Star Tours (4:30PM - 5:30PM) And so on until your afternoon gets busier. You’ll wait two hours and book the second most popular ride next, again getting a late return time. Specifically, you’ll usually book the most popular ride first, but have a really late return time. Stacking is the practice of holding multiple Lightning Lanes at the same time. It’s really the same way of saying the same thing, and which is the rule / exception on a given day will just depend on crowd levels and what rides you go on.)įor reasons covered above, Hollywood Studios is the park where you’re most likely to wind up with a “stack” of late Lightning Lanes. (Note: Just to be clear, a lot of times you’ll hear this told the other way-that the “rule” is 2 hours and the “exception” is if you can use the Lightning Lane sooner than that. Particularly at Hollywood Studios, this means you’ll often have more than one Lightning Lane booked for the late afternoons, as you might make bookings at 7AM, 10AM, noon, and 2PM all for evening times. If you make your first selection before the park opens, the two-hour clock starts running when the park opens. The exception is that if you book a Lightning Lane via Genie+ that starts more than two hours in the future, you can book another Lightning Lane via Genie+ after waiting two hours.

That means if you have a reservation for Toy Story Mania from 3PM to 4PM, you have to wait until you use that reservation (during that window) before you can book another one.

Within Genie+, you can hold one Lightning Lane reservation at a time-with one (large) exception, covered next.
